George Winston is undeniably a household name. He’s inspired fans and musicians alike with his singular solo acoustic piano songs for more than 40 years while selling 15 million albums. A tireless road warrior playing nearly 100 concerts annually, live performance for Winston is akin to breathing. "Restless Wind" is a portrayal of Winston’s place in a chaotic world – his compositions extend solace with an idiosyncratic grace.

George Winston’s classic albums, "Autumn" and "December," are perennial favorites, along with "Winter into Spring," "Summer," 2017’s "Spring Carousel – A Cancer Research Benefit," as well as two volumes of the compositions of Vince Guaraldi, two volumes of benefit albums for the Gulf Coast disasters, and six other solo piano albums. This Fall ArtEscape Studios located in downtown Walla Walla will host art workshops in encaustics, oil painting, and woodblock printmaking. These workshops provide an opportunity for the curious and creative minded to come out and explore art making with the guidance of a highly skilled artist, and with a limited monetary commitment (all supplies will be provided).  Workshops will provide foundation information on working with the mediums, and will center on guided art making and exploration.

All materials will be provided, and no experience is required.  Due to potential hazards that can accompany working with the tools in these workshops, all participants must be 18 or older or be accompanied by an adult.

    Oil Painting- 50$- SATURDAY 9/28, 1-4 PM

Participants will learn about basic techniques and materials to get started with oil painting. Workshop topics of discussion will include basics on mediums that can be used for texture, glaze, and wash; palette, paint and brush care; and the time-honored technique of fat over lean principle used to create durable works that can last centuries.

Each participant will be invited to paint one 8 x 11 on stretched canvas and one wood panel (roughly 4" x 4", size will vary). The majority of the time in the class will be spent on painting, with guidance from the instructor as needed by the class. A still life display will be provided to work from. Attendees may also bring a photo to work from, or may work abstract.

    About the Instructor:

Sarah Leighty will partner with ArtEscape Studios to present this Oil Painting Workshop.  Sarah moved to Walla Walla in 2016 after living 10 years in Austin, TX, where she played an active role in the group studio space Pump Project.  She is a now a working artist at ArtEscape (in studio B1), and is excited to provide an opportunity for the local community to engage in art making.  Sarah earned a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from the University of West Florida (major in oil painting) in 2002.  She works primarily in oils, on canvases she stretches or wood panels she builds. Sarah's work focuses on exploration of color and light, and is inspired by nature and neuroplasticity.

Pigs on the Wing: Animals 2019 - Walla Walla

    FRI, OCT 11th

PIGS ON THE WING: A TRIBUTE TO PINK FLOYD
    'Animals 2019'
    GESA Power House Theatre
    7:00PM / all ages / 2 sets

    About the band:
Portland, Oregon based Pink Floyd tribute Pigs on the Wing announce the band's 2019-2020 production, 'Animals' a 2 set Pink Floyd concert experience featuring a full performance of Pink Floyd's 1977 album Animals - and full second set highlighting the very best of Pink Floyd's Roger Waters-era catalog.

Tracing its roots to a one-off performance in Portland in 2006, Pigs on the Wing has steadily developed a reputation for delivering a high quality, high energy take on Pink Floyd's music steeped in the NW's own rich musical heritage. All of the members of the band are seasoned veterans of the original rock scene and balance a decidedly un-tribute like attitude towards the music with a deep understanding of the importance of Pink Floyd's music in many fans' lives. The result is a sound and experience both refreshing in delivery and yet true to the original something the band believes sets it apart from other Pink Floyd tributes.

    About Animals 2019:

Pigs on the Wing has long considered Animals to be their defining experience of Floyd ( not to mention the band's namesake) - and perhaps the album best suited to their own high energy take on Floyd's catalog. Fans can expect Pigs on the Wing to deliver a precise, hard-hitting, true-to-the-music performance of the classic 1977 Animals album melded seamlessly with Pigs on the Wing's trademark willingness to explore the improvisational side of Pink Floyd's music - and to let their own musical strengths guide the journey. This year's show will additionally showcase a second full set of carefully curated Pink Floyd music from throughout the Roger Waters era including the hits and some deep cuts as well and an immersive audio-visual concert experience not to be missed.

    Printmaking- 40$- SATURDAY 10/26, 1-4 PM

In this workshop participants will use quality printmaking tools to create original prints on paper and cloth.  Each participant will get to carve a woodblock and print it on watercolor paper and a cotton T-shirt.  Participants are invited to bring up to 3 other pieces of clothing or material to print on.  The inks make lasting designs on cloth, and withstand many washes without fading. This class offers a great experience for any beginner artist, while giving the experienced artist a chance to try new tools and create in a collaborative environment.

    About the Instructor:

Patty Gardner will partner with ArtEscape Studios to present this workshop.  Patty grew up in Spokane, where she began working in wax and bronze casting in High School. She continued on to study visual and graphic design, moved to Seattle to work as a graphic designer with JCPenney and then at Microsoft. In Seattle she attended classes and workshops in Letterpress printing and woodblock engraving at the School of Visual Concepts. That is where she fell in love with the art of woodblock engraving and printing.
