About “The Hand + The Machine”
The Hand + The Machine is a year-long program that examines the artist’s relationship to tools and technology. Funded by a generous grant from the McMillen Foundation, this project includes workshops and lectures by visiting artists, public exhibitions of professional and student work, and the acquisition of new tools such as 3D printers, a CNC router, and laser cutter. These are the tools that many contemporary artists use in their everyday work – the program enhances our students’ ability to be conversant with the latest technologies and modes of artistic production.
