Gesa Power House Theatre presents:
CABARET is set in a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close. Guests are welcomed by a garish Master of Ceremonies who urges everyone to leave their troubles at the door. CABARET explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Musical numbers include “Willkommen,” “Cabaret,” “Don’t Tell Mama” and “Two Ladies.”
CABARET opened on Broadway on November 20, 1966, played for 1,165 performances at the Broadhurst, Imperial, and Broadway Theatres, and won eight Tony Awards. A film version of the musical, starring Joel Grey (the original Emcee) and Liza Minnelli, directed by Bob Fosse, was released in 1972 and received eight Academy Awards. The show was revised for Broadway, first in 1987, and again in 1998.
This production, directed by former New York City director and producer and Walla Walla native Tyson Kaup (“The Last Five Years” and “Rocky Horror Show“), will be based on the 1998 revival which received four Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards.
