Are you ready for our annual Summer Shakespeare production?

Shakespeare Walla Walla presents The Rude Mechanicals' production of "The Tempest" with outdoor performances on August 10, 11, and 12 at the Whitman College Outdoor Amphitheatre.

Festival lawn seating begins at 6:15 p.m. The play begins at 7:00 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested. Blankets and picnic dinners are encouraged!

For twelve years, the exiled Duke Prospero has waited for this moment: Old enemies have sailed too close to his enchanted island, and a mighty tempest has forced them ashore. Now it’s time to settle old scores and reclaim his former dukedom for his daughter, Miranda. Aided by supernatural powers and magical spirits, Prospero dispenses justice while overseeing the growing attraction between Miranda and the princely son of one of his foes. In Shakespeare’s romance, sorcery and love transmute vengeance into humility and humanity, making it possible for all to return to a world made new by the power of forgiveness.

Suitability suggestions: The Tempest contains scenes of comic drunkenness and discussions of violent acts, including an attempted rape. The play is suitable for younger playgoers, although, given the complexity of the language and themes, it may be best suited for middle school students and above.
