Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra Auditions 2018-2019 Season

Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra announces 2018-2019 Auditions on September 15th and 16th

 The Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra (WWSYO), with conductor Dr. Paul Luongo, will be holding auditions for the 2018-19 season on Saturday, September 15 from 1 – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 16 from 1 – 4:00pm in the Chism Hall of Music at Whitman College. Instrumental students (strings, winds, brass, and percussion) in grades 8 – 12 who participate in their school music programs are invited to audition. 

Each audition is 5 minutes and consist of a prepared piece of your choosing that demonstrates your experience level on your instrument. (No sight reading, no prepared excerpts.).  Please note, all students must audition regardless of past participation with the WWSYO. WWSYO is a full-symphonic ensemble and participation is free to all players.  The ensemble presents several free public concerts during the season. Rehearsals take place on Mondays from 6:30 – 8pm beginning on October 1 in the Whitman College Music building with a day retreat on Sunday, September 23rd.  

Dr. Paul Luongo is an Assistant Professor of Music at Whitman College and director of the Whitman Orchestra. He has directed the WWSYO since 2014.  Dr. Luongo’s undergraduate studies were in music education at Stetson University (B.M.E. 1998). At the Florida State University, he received degrees in conducting (M.M. 2006) and musicology (M.M. 2006), culminating in a Ph.D. in musicology (2010).
