Paul McCarthy Lecture

  • 16 Feb 2016
  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Maxey Auditorium - Whitman College

World-renowned artist Paul McCarthy will be giving a lecture at Whitman College on  on Tuesday, February 16th at 7pm in MAXEY AUDITORIUM.

Paul is one of the most famous artists in the world of contemporary art. He is currently working on a project at the WW foundry and has generously agreed to give a talk at Whitman.

Please be aware that the lecture may include graphic content and images, and may not be suitable for all ages or dispositions.  The presentation may not be suitable for children. If there are any questions or concerns as to the content, we would encourage attendees to familiarize themselves with the nature of Paul McCarthy's work prior to the lecture. Please use your best judgment in choosing to attend, and in inviting others.

Most recently McCarthy has turned his work to socially collaborative ends, partnering with arts organization The Skateroom. Based out of Brussels, The Skateroom initiative encourages artists to enrich skate art history by producing bold, exciting works that lend their profits to empowerment organizations. All proceeds from this project go to the international NGO Skateistan, with a view in mind to fund the first skate school on the African continent in central Johannesburg.

The Skateistan project is what McCarthy will be working on while here at the Walla Walla Foundry. In addition to his skateboards he is also creating larger sculptures that will populate skate parks. It is this newest “Skateistan” series that would be largely featured in the artist’s lecture.
