Walla Walla Symphony and Carnegie Picture Lab host “Explore, Discover & Create”  event

On March 18, 2017 at 11am and 12pm, join the Walla Walla Symphony and Carnegie Picture Lab at the Walla Walla Public Library for Explore, Discover & Create, a free family-friendly event. Each session includes information about Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a brief abstract painting lesson with artist Kandyce King and the chance to listen to pianist Jackie Wood play excerpts from Pictures at an Exhibition while children paint! Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to participate.

Kandyce King is an abstract, mixed-media artist. Taking Commercial Art at Walla Walla University was really the start of her abstract painting career. In high school, King was formally trained in realism, but was awakened to abstract art by her professor and mentor, Martha Mason. Most days you can find King in her garage studio, creating to her heart’s content. King is a native to the Walla Walla Valley and draws inspiration from nature, music, fashion, poetry, and her daily surroundings.

This program is supported by the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
