WWU Associate Professor of Music Brandon Beck said the Music Celebrations International Viennese Masters Festival invitational concert will be June 21 at the concert venue.
To raise funds for the trip, the university orchestra will give a concert for the community from 8-9:20 p.m. March 16 in Walla Walla University Church, 212 SW Fourth St.
While admission is free, financial donations will be accepted.
They plan to perform Overture, “Die Zauberflöte” K. 620 by Wolfgang A. Mozart, “Suite in A major, Op 98b” (American) by Antonin Dvorak and “Symphony No. 1 in G minor” by Vasiliy Kalinnikov, Beck said.
Within an hour after the orchestra’s recording was emailed to Carnegie, Beck heard back that the WWU Orchestra had been accepted for the performance, he said.
Approximately 50 people will perform as members of the orchestra. The group hopes to raise approximately $40,000 more to finish out the total for the five-day trip, including the cost of driving larger instruments, such as cellos, basses, harp, tuba, trombones east to New York and back so they don’t have to rent student-level instruments.
Tax-deductible donations may be made online ubne.ws/2UijvVq or at the concert.
