Art Show on “Potential”

Featuring Ceramist Ryan Gary, Watercolorist Saw Lay, and Clarice Swanson of the Nonprofit Meadowlark Voices

Opening Reception - Friday, May 3, 2019, 5 PM to 8:00 PM

Ryan Gary, a well-known local ceramist, explores many places around the world where he continuously learns new techniques and experiments with new ideas. He will present a mix of his works, which he describes as having been heavily influence by the energy of other people. He has collaborated with Clarice Swanson of the nonprofit Meadowlark Voices (www.meadowlarkvoices.org) to present this show, which is based on the idea of human potential. Clarice represents the artist Saw Lay who resides in Mae La Refugee Camp in Thailand and is not able to be present at the show.

Clarice, a Walla Walla native, describes her work with refuges as a way to  recognize and give voice to the talents, challenges, and plights of artists and musicians in refugee camps and cultures at risk. Since 2016, Clarice has been delivering new or gently used art and music supplies from companies and individuals in Walla Walla, College Place, the Tri-Cities, Seattle, Vancouver, and Gig Harbor to refugee camp schools, villages, teachers, musicians, and artists. Brushes and paints used in the some of the paintings in this show came from right here in Walla Walla.

In addition to the opening reception, we invite you to attend three other events with these artists. Please join us from 6 to 8 PM on May 10 for a presentation by Clarice on her experiences in the refugee camps and the theme of “Potential,” on May 17 for an evening of live music, and on May 24 for a presentation by Ryan on his experiences and the theme of “Potential.” He also has some surprises for you.
