Announces WWSYO & Wa-Hi Combined Winter Concert on December 19th

Walla Walla, WA – (December 12, 2013) The Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra (WWSYO) is excited to announce a combined holiday concert with the Walla Walla High School Orchestras on Thursday, December 19th, at 7p.m. at the Walla Walla High School Performing Arts Auditorium. The WWSYO, Dr. Jeremy Mims, Music Director and Conductor, will perform selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, Bizet’s L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1, and Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival. The Walla Walla High School orchestras, Ms. Julia Woods, Director, will perform various holiday music such as An 18th Century Christmas arranged by James McLeod, Parade of the Wooden Soldiers arranged by Calvin Custer, Haydn’s Sinfonia No. 39, Leroy Anderson’s Suite of Carols, and more! The concert finale will combine the WWSYO and Wa-Hi orchestras in Leroy Anderson’s holiday classic, Sleigh Ride, with an extra surprise! Come and start your holiday by supporting these fantastic music programs in the Walla Walla Valley!
This concert is free with a suggested donation of $2/person of $5/family with all proceeds going to the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica (NYOJ) which is a non-profit, non-government organization engaged in the development of youth orchestras in Jamaica. The NYOJ manages this program for social change in challenged communities in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS). The NYOJ is a social development program aimed at enhancing the lives of children from challenged communities and it utilizes lessons in classical music to instil core values of discipline, perseverance and dedication, fostering emotional and intellectual development in our participants.
