  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Cordiner Hall 345 Boyer Ave, Walla Walla, Washington 99362

On Tuesday, October 2 at 7pm, the 2018-19 season opens with a trio of great composers, fantastic pieces, and fabulous soloists in “Triple Threat.” Accompanied by the Walla Walla Symphony, local musicians Lauren Basney, violin; Sally Singer Tuttle, cello; and David Hyun-su Kim, piano will perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.

In addition to the Beethoven, the Symphony will also perform the “Overture” from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 in D Major, pieces that were written when both composers were only in their late teens.

Lauren Basney is an international performer who has played with the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival and in various venues in Walla Walla and throughout United States, both as a soloist and with her husband, pianist David Hyun-su Kim. She is also a member of the Alianza Quartet. Sally Singer Tuttle has given numerous performances of solo and chamber works in Europe and throughout the United States, including an appearance as the cello soloist for the Walla Walla Symphony’s performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto in 2015. She is also the Cellist and Artistic Director for the New York based organization Sankusem, as well as a faculty member at Whitman College. David Hyun-su Kim is an international performer who holds degrees from Harvard, Yale, and Cornell Universities, and a doctorate from the New England Conservatory. He teaches at Whitman College and will be releasing a CD of solo Schumann piano works this year.

The "Inside the Music" Pre-Concert Talk begins shortly after 6pm in the lobby of Cordiner Hall. Before the concert and during intermission, enjoy a glass of wine from featured wine sponsor Buty Winery for $5 a glass (all proceeds benefit the Walla Walla Symphony).
