Art21 Virtual Teacher Workshop: From Materiality to Embodiment: Artists and Industrial Towns

How do artists relate to industrial environments? In this workshop we will look at artists like Phyllida Barlow and LaToya Ruby Frazier who respond to industrial surroundings by repurposing the remnants of its materials and space. Through this workshop educators will learn a range of techniques artists use to convey their attitudes, ideas, and feelings about their environments. We will discuss how to use these artists’ work as a jumping off point for students to draw inspiration from their own communities.
