Event Details
You are invited to the McNary NWR Environmental Education Center for a day of artists painting, drawing and journaling outside on Saturday, May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Address: 64 Maple St, Burbank, WA 99323 If you are an artist, urban sketcher, or nature journaler, we invite you to join us. We will have access to the viewing areas from the refuge observation deck next to the EE Center, trails leading to the Pollinator Garden, and the large airy enclosed bird blind next to the water. For the more adventurous, the beautiful Quail Trail pathway hosts many benches and viewing areas. This delightful trail leads around big ponds, past fields and marshlands, over a small bridge, past sagebrush filled slopes, more ponds, and finally a bench in a grove of trees. Total distance out and back is 3 miles This day is a perfect example of Plein air painting which is French for "in the open air". It's the practice of painting outdoors, directly observing and capturing the natural light and atmosphere of a scene on a canvas. Artists can document the true colors and lighting of a landscape. Bring a brown bag lunch and join us for lunch or just come for an hour or two! This event is intended to support all kinds of artists, nature journalers, and sketchers to take advantage of the inspiration of our outdoor space. We will not be providing or teaching art activities, but visitors will have the opportunity to observe artists in action. Contact Kathy Criddle for more information. kcriddlebirds@yahoo.com
