Arts Build Community (ABC) Grant

Applications Open: September 25th, 2021

Deadline: TBA 2021

Amount Awarded: Up to $500

Number Available: 4

The Arts Build Community Grant is awarded to arts, cultural, and educational organizations in the Walla Walla Valley.

Application

ArtWalla's Arts Education Grants seek to enrich artistic vitality and artistic opportunities within our valley.  Our goal is simple: to serve as a catalyst, fostering opportunities for artists and non-profit arts and culture organizations to enhance their skills and programs.

Walla Walla has a unique artistic and creative scene and ArtWalla recognizes that in order to foster and grow this creative spirit funds are needed to support new programs and individual educational opportunities.  To this end, ArtWalla prioritizes funding from our membership dues and annual fundraisers to provide grants for these efforts.  In essence the community and artists are supporting the importance of funding to grow and enhance our vibrant art scene.

Grant Information

ArtWalla offers two different grants each year, The Dan Dunn Memorial Grant for individual artists in any discipline, and the Arts Build Community Grants for arts, culture, and educational institutions providing arts education programming to our community.

ArtWalla recognizes that the arts community is unequal. There are historical and structural obstacles to accessing art resources and funding opportunities for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) in addition to other artists’ identity, such as ability, age, citizenship, discipline, economic status, education, gender, and sexuality. With equity and diversity of lived experiences as a priority, artists and arts organizations centering these identities are highly encouraged to apply.

Selection Process:

Three Arts Education Grants Panelists are selected each year by the ArtWalla Board to evaluate applications and select recipients for both grants.  ArtWalla selects panelists who are involved in the Walla Walla arts community as educators (especially in the Arts), community leaders, arts advocates, artists in any discipline, or are involved in Art-tivism (activism through art).

Panelists have time to review and evaluate applications based on ArtWalla’s guidelines and criteria. The criteria are meant to serve as a starting point for discussion for the panel, and ArtWalla staff or board members do not evaluate or select any applications. Criteria for each grant can be found on the individual application pages. While reviewing applications, panelists are asked to apply a lens of racial equity.  The panel then meets to discuss applicants and select recipients. In 2020 the panel meeting will be held virtually. All applicants will receive communication about whether or not they received a grant by December 16, 2020. Current ArtWalla board members and Grant panelists are not eligible to receive grants.

Our selection panels change each grant cycle. Panelists must wait three years before they can serve on another selection panel. If you are interested in participating on the evaluation panel please contact us here
