“Ahmal and the Night Visitors,” an opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, will be performed from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in Chism Hall on the Whitman College campus, 137 S. Park St.
The cast will feature Whitman students and Walla Walla community members.
It tells the story of Amahl, a disabled boy with a crutch, who sees a star. Three Wise Men ask to rest awhile at his house. His mother agrees to allow them to rest before resuming their journey.
The opera is in one act. It was the first opera written for television broadcast, commissioned by NBC and presented live on Dec. 24, 1951. The opera continued to be broadcast annually in the United States through 1966.
The performance is free and family friendly.
